Where are you answering these questions from?
My studio in West Sussex
What would you say is your number one artist essential?
Can’t live without my imagination, as I am an abstract and surrealist painter.
If you could have a drink with any artist in history, who would it be and what would the drink be?
I have two artists I would love to converse with.
Firstly, Faith Ringgold an American Civil Rights Activist, sculptor and author. Her paintings and quilts made her famous and focused on the underlying racism in everyday activities that the black community had to endure in the 60s.
She said, "You can’t sit around waiting for somebody else to say who you are, you need to write it, paint it and do it. That’s the power of being an artist."
Although I don’t drink I would have to share a white rum with her.
Secondly, Frida Kahlo like me a self taught painter, who I would gladly share a mojito with. I would love to visit her home Casa Azul.
Listen to Gigi Lopez talk about her life and artistic
What is something people would be surprised about you?
If people don’t know something about me it’s because I don’t want them to know! I’m generally an open book so no surprises!
If you could own any artwork, regardless of time or money (or space!) what would it be ?
I would purchase ‘Guernica’ by Picasso. One of the most important paintings from the 20th Century. A Powerful anti-war painting depicting the tragedies of war and the suffering inflicted on Spanish civilians by fascists Franco and Hitler.
What is your main goal for the year?
To get through 2020 as painlessly as possible! We’re nearly there!
