Paper textiles
Embroidery has a rich history, here tissue paper is transformed with machine embroidery and painted. They are very fragile until they have received a coat of shellac varnish leaving the surface ready for gilding with Gold Leaf.
Patterns and spots are almost camouflaged within the gold and pigments, certain light reveal more colour and the red edging on the pieces. Although photographed on black to highlight the colours and spots, they are framed using a background of an off-white paper.
The feathers are hand stitched onto a backing paper of Fabriano Artistico hot press watercolour paper.
