Join us for one of our popular art and wellness days this winter.
A creative day of reflection, storytelling and bookmaking with Liz Hammond & Edith Pargh Barton
Discover the gentle Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi - the art of finding beauty in imperfection, simplicity and the passage of time.
This inspiring creative workshop invites you to slow down, reconnect with treasured memories and transform personal papers and photographs into meaningful works of art.
Whether you are an experienced artist or simply enjoy making, this relaxed and supportive workshop will introduce techniques that you can continue exploring at home.
Morning Workshop (10.30am – 12 noon)
Wabi-Sabi Collage with Liz Hammond
Explore the principles and origins of Wabi-Sabi through a guided collage workshop.
Working with photocopies of your own treasured photographs, letters, documents and keepsakes, you'll create a deeply personal mixed-media artwork that celebrates memory, ageing and the stories that shape us.
Together we'll explore composition, layering, texture and the quiet beauty found in life's imperfections.
You may choose to create:
A finished collage ready for framing, or
A piece that can become part of your handmade artist's book in the afternoon session.
Please bring:
Colour photocopies of old photographs, letters, postcards, recipes, certificates or other meaningful papers (please avoid bringing original precious documents)
Any favourite pens, pencils or drawing materials you would like to use
Materials provided:
Collage papers
Acrylic medium and glue
Tissue paper and newsprint

Using simple techniques and accessible materials, you'll create a unique artist's book that can continue to grow with future memories, poems, sketches and keepsakes.
No previous bookbinding experience is required, making this an ideal introduction to creative bookmaking.
